Glossary What are the UN Principles of Responsible Investment?
UN Principles of Responsible Investment (PRI)
The PRIs were defined by an investor initiative established in 2006 in partnership with the UN Environment Programme’s financial initiative. The aim is to develop an understanding of the effects of investment activities on environmental, social and corporate governance issues in the company and for investors today and in the future.
The six principles that PRI signatories are committed to and report on the progress of are:
- We will incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes.
- We will be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into our ownership policies and practices.
- We will seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the entities in which we invest.
- We will promote acceptance and implementation of the Principles within the investment industry.
- We will work together to enhance our effectiveness in implementing the Principles.
- We will each report on our activities and progress towards implementing the Principles.
